Tile Shopping

Hey everyone! Sorry we’ve been MIA recently! Our host server had some issues, so we were in and out all weekend. Everything should be cleared up now, but let us know if you have any issues today!

Just to prove to ourselves that we’re super cereal about starting this tile project, Kev and I headed out this weekend to check out the tile we mentioned last week in person.

We started off at The Tile Shop. Unfortunately, both samples we wanted to see had been checked out. We did find a few other options, though.

I loved the look of this black slate, but at (I think) $12.99/sq. ft., it was out of our price range.

The Tile Shop - Black SlateWe both were intrigued by this gray ceramic tile, but decided it wasn’t quite what we were going for.

The Tile Shop - Gray Ceramice TileI was smitten with this free length travertine. I think I would have taken in home on the spot, but Kevin wasn’t a big fan.

The Tile Shop - Free Length Honed TravertineAlthough, I’m not sure he was as into the tile shopping as I was. He spent a good bit of our time there doing things like this:

Thirsty KevinIn the end, we picked up a sample of the cheaper tile from Lowes. I think we really like it. My only concern is that the blue-gray tile clashes with our Ikea brown-black built-in desks. What do you think? Oh, and see how gross the carpet is? It really, really needs to go.

We can start putting bulk trash out this Thursday, so we’re going to start emptying the office this week (and maybe even pulling up the carpet)! We’ll post plenty of pictures on Instagram when we do get started!

Have you visited a Tile Shop? Does your husband play hide-and-seen and Marco Polo when you go home improvement shopping? Are you as excited as we are to finally have a project?!

I’m a fan of the tile you chose! It’s hard to tell if it’s going to class with the desks yet, but you can always add a small area rug underneath them so it’s not so dark.

PS – We play around in the IKEA showroom (I often ask Joe why he hasn’t paid the water bill).

Have you tried local tile shops?
I think you might be okay with that tile/desk color not clashing.
So awesome that you have a bulk pick-up week! We can only put out 1 bulk item per week, so we have a bit of backlog.

They’ll take just about anything for out bulk pickup (the only thing they didn’t take was the hottub concrete) and as far as I know, there’s no limit to how much we can put out. Of course, for the amount of property taxes we pay…

He would have, but all the baths were too short for him to sit down in (luckily he’s 6’4″ tall and can’t fit in most hiding spaces), but you should see him in Ikea.

I love the tile you picked! It will look great with your desks.
I was just at the Tile Shop last week (by myself though!) looking for fireplace tile. There are so many choices! I left empty handed. Maybe we should check out Lowes.
